— The Texas Rangers were embarrassed on their home turf once again Friday night, losing 8-1 to the Boston Red Sox at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. The Rangers, who are now 0-for-8 against the Red Sox this season, dropped to 69-73.

Could this be the year a Boston-area team finally has a perfect season?

Red Sox starter Josh Beckett unceremoniously mowed down the Rangers over five scoreless innings, striking out seven and walking none in his first start coming off the disabled list. The Rangers as a team managed just six hits, all singles, and three walks, all of which came in the late innings when the game was already far out of reach.

The Rangers only run came with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, when Nelson Cruz knocked in German Duran with an RBI single.

Rangers starter Kevin Millwood had a subpar outing, giving up seven runs in six innings. Millwood had problems getting batters out all night, giving up nine hits and one walk while striking out four. Millwood dropped to 9-8 on the year, with a 5.01 ERA.
