You might have heard that our neighbor Fort Worth is joining the big leagues of film festivals with their own Lone Star International Film Festival.
What you might not know is that Saturday, Nov. 10, has been designated "Cine Latino Sidebar," as part of this festival.
It means that all day long at Fort Worth’s Rose Marine Theater (1440 N. Main Street) three thought-provoking films will be showcased: The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, The Ballad of Esequiel Hernandez, and Al Otro Lado.
The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, directed by Tommy Lee Jones. The film weaves past and present as it gradually reveals a great friendship, and culminates in the redemption of a callous, if accidental, killer.
The Ballad of Esequiel Hernández, narrated by Tommy Lee Jones, about the fatal shooting of 18 year-old Esequiel Hernández by US Marines in Redford, Texas.
Al Otro Lado explores the effects of migration when children from three different countries - Mexico, Cuba and Morocco - struggle with the absence of fathers who have emigrated to "the other side" in search of better lives. Each child makes the decision to bring their father home.
Film actor Julio Cesar Cedillo will host the day-long event and oversee a Q & A after each film.
The Cine Latino Sidebar begins at noon. Tickets can be reserved by calling 817.735.1117 or visiting film festival’s website.
